About Your Guide

South Dakota Hunting & Fishing Guide Dave SpaidWelcome! My name is Dave Spaid, I am currently 49 years old and I was born and raised on our family farm near Pierre, South Dakota. My great grandfather homesteaded in this area in 1902. He was an immigrant of Scottish and Pennsylvania Dutch descent. After purchasing land through the Homesteader's Act, he broke ground near here with an ox and plow, dug a hole for a root cellar and used the sod to build his house.  A shallow well was dug by hand and barn and corral was built after that.

His farm was located in an area where old Indian tribes used the  to camp and worship. During his first years on the farm, some of the remaining Indians would occasionally ride up from the Missouri River and attempt to trade the items they made for items he produced.  After years of hard work, his wife died at an early age, leaving him with three children to raise by himself.  Each of them married and built their own family farm.  My father's generation came after that.  I now represent part of the fourth generation. 

As a central South Dakota native, I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories and being a guide for the last 21 years.  One of my greatest joys however, comes from helping others hunt and fish.  I hope that someday you will give me the opportunity to show you the fantastic hunting and fishing this area of South Dakota has to offer.
