Lower Lake Oahe Looking Better

Lower Lake Oahe Looking Better

I took a group of four out for two days and we caught all species of fish consistently everywhere we went all day long. Limits of walleye were not a problem but half were smaller than we like to keep. Nice to see small fish though. Not everyone out there is having as good of luck though. Our ways of fishing for them comes from knowledge and experience we learned from the early 1990’s and the current water level of Lake Oahe. It is still too early to say all of Lake Oahe is in a state of recovery yet. We need to fish all the areas of lower Oahe and see if the fish are there also.

Lower Lake Oahe Showing Signs of Recovery

Lower Lake Oahe Showing Signs of Recovery

We caught these yesterday in shallow water. A lot of smaller walleye ranging from 13 to 14 inches were released. Everything fat and healthy. The largest was 20 inches. Hopefully this will be a sign of good things to come this summer. The river in Pierre has also been hot. West bend has a lot of smaller ones but high numbers of fish as usual.

Excellent Spring Fishing Bite 2018

Excellent Spring Fishing Bite 2018

There is a great population of walleye and smallmouth this year in Lake Sharpe. A great lake to take someone to catch a lot of fish. Although the walleye are running slightly smaller this spring, there are plenty of eaters there to sort through and catch your limit. We will also be fishing Lake Oahe a lot more this year for some larger fish. Get a hold of me (call or text). I am full for June but have openings the 2nd Half of July through September up on Oahe or Sharpe.

The Hilgemann’s Aug. 28

The Hilgemann’s Aug. 28

Nice walleye! Nice family! Nice Bite! We caught most of our fish in the first two drifts then the wind came up and slowed the bite back down to “normal” fish every few minutes. The gizzard shad and other prey fish are thick this year and the walleye are really getting fat compared to earlier this season.
