Walleye and Catfish bite on Lake Oahe

Walleye and Catfish bite on Lake Oahe

This time of year with all the bait fish available, the walleye fishing has slowed down but the catfish we are catching is off the charts. Some of the larger cats really fight and are hard to bring in. My fingers are raw from removing hooks from fish. There’s a 1 gallon bag fillet limit in my boat. We have also been getting about a 1 gallon bag of walleye also.

Walleye on the Move

Walleye on the Move

Walleye are moving down into lower Oahe. The bite excellent from the Cheyenne down to Chantier Creek on both sides. The fish are shallow migrating in 5 to 15 feet due to the bait clouds and high water levels. They range from 14 to 20 inches and are chunky. Get a hold of me for August trips. We have open days available.

Cheyenne keeps coughing up nice walleyes. I guided for Scott and Hutch a group out of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. We were done with five limits of walleye by 11:00 MST and went in to beat the heat. Actually my Lowrance front fish finder locked up and decided to go in early without going for bass. The walleye were still in eight or nine feet of water. Fat as could be. Bait fish in the live well. Life is good!

Dirty Water. No Problem

Today our 50 walleye bite did not happen. We did get our limits though. Something happened last night and it was all muddy where we caught our fish the other day. We had to go to the other side of the lake where we caught fewer but nice fish back in the bays under the mud. We have openings in July and August. If you are wanting to fish Lake Oahe, the fishing has been excellent with nice healthy walleye this year.

Mission Bay Walleye

Mission Bay Walleye

We caught these fish near the mouth of Mission Bay. The fish are sliding deeper, around 10-18 feet. The fish are scattered about, we threw some small ones back and it took us most of the day to get our limit.

Oahe Walleye in Agency Creek

Lower Oahe is producing some nice fish. Screw the gravel roads. We caught our limit by 11 AM down on the lower end of Lake Oahe in Agency Creek. The fish were caught on bottom bouncers in 8-10 feet of water. Here is a 23 inch female that was released.
