Fun Times on the River
The river walleye bite in Pierre is good. A lot of fun.

24 States to Go
Jerry Gray from Craig, CO spent the day with me fishing Oahe, SD. He just came from Fort Peck, MT and Lake Sakakawea, ND. His goal is to fish all fifty states. He has 26 so far.
A Good Challenge
Today I guided for Scott Vanliere and the Outpost Lodge. The fishing has been a challenge to find at times but the fish are nice and in great shape.
Game on for Walleye
June 21, it’s game on for walleye fishing. We had customers out of the Outpost Lodge and both boats were limited by 11:00 AM. They came out of Lower Lake Oahe in 6-10 feet.
Great Shape
The fish are starting to bite a little better. They’re in great shape. Yesterday we caught them back in the bays at 8 1/2 feet and today they were on the points in 12 to 21 feet.
Big Hatch and Big Fish
Although the bite on Lake Oahe has been a little tough, we managed to catch and release this nice walleye this morning. It came out of Deep Creek in 17 FOW. My 37 years of guiding, I have never seen a baitfish hatch as large as this. Smelt, herring, and other species are seen everywhere in the system. Many have left the shoreline and are suspended in balls every 20 yards 10 to 40 feet of water.
Fun was had by all.
Looks like there’ll be some decent weather for Memorial Day weekend. If that holds up, there should be quite a few fish brought in. Right now the fish are in 8‘ 20‘ 30 feet etc. although the weather was lousy the last 10 days we’ve managed to reschedule some and do what we could. Here’s a couple pics of our catch. Released the large one, of course. Fun was had by all.
Another fine catch today.
Walleye and Smallmouth Combo
We went out this morning, looking for walleye, and the smallmouth were up shallow biting. Ended up getting their eight walleye and our limits of smallmouth. Threw the big ones back.
